Split Point Lighthouse, Aireys Inlet
Drive down the Great Ocean Road that zig-zags along the wild and scenic
Southern Ocean. Spot whales and dolphins on the ride.
Visit the 19th-century Split Point Lighthouse.
Drink in the views from here of desolate beaches and rugged cliffs.
Along the Great Ocean Road |
Apollo Bay
Snuggled in the foothills of the Otways is the tranquil village of Apollo Bay. A great place to stop for lunch along the Great Ocean Road as there is a good choice of restaurants and cafés.

Get up close and personal with koalas, kangaroos and native birds. Seeing these animals in the wild is something incredibly special.

Majestic rock stacks |
Twelve Apostles
Majestic rock stacks that rise up from the Southern Ocean. Millions of years ago they were joined to the mainland limestone cliffs. Continuing erosion by waves and winds of the soft limestone formed caves in the cliffs which over time became arches. Eventually they were battered down into the pillars you see today. Presently, there are only eight apostles.

Loch Ard Gorge |
Loch Ard Gorge, Port Campbell National Park
A favourite spot with tourists, as it has a story to tell. In 1878 a British ship, Loch Ard, ran aground. Only two of the 54 passengers survived,15-year-old Tom Pearce and 17-year-old Eva Carmichael from Ireland. Both were washed ashore but Pearce managed to raise an alarm and they were both saved.

The two remaining rock pillars of the gorge were named Tom
and Eva after the two survivors.
